The Rest of the Story

Do you ever notice there's little closure in blog-world? We post about a recipe we plan to try; or a new project our kids are taking on; or a request for paint color ideas. But we often don't report back. And by 'we', I mean 'I'. I just like to assume everyone else has a similar lack of follow-through - makes me feel less pathetic.

Blogging makes me feel both less lonely and more disconnected. I get to network with like-minded people. I get to learn from other unschoolers and parents. I get feedback from readers. But because I've never met most of these people, it occasionally feels a bit like talking on the edge of a dark forest - my voice goes in, but I'm not always sure who's listening.
I've
posted before about how I have difficulty transitioning from being away to being home and back in the swing. I don't jump back into the swing. I circle it, I see it with new eyes, I get a little passive aggressive about getting back into the swing. And I don't blog.

But here I am, without much to say at all. I figure, therefore, it's a good time to wrap up some loose ends. Finish some stories. Fill in some blanks. Reattach some dangling participles.

***
The bathroom paint color dilemma. Remember how I asked y'all for suggestions on what color to paint my bathroom? Update - I haven't painted it yet. It still looks like this:
Only with a lot more hair, dried toothpaste, and dirty towels.

***
My request for an editor for my writing was fulfilled! Lori of MORTpiphanies has been working with me to polish up my writing. And holy wow, have I learned a lot already. Thank you Lori - you rock! Also, Christa of Sandy Feet has provided constructive criticism as well. And yes, I thought her name was Sandy. Sandy Feet. Well, guess what - It's not! Thank you Sandy Christa! You rock too!

***
Remember this? Well, just between you and me... It WAS what it looked like! Shhhhhh.

***
But the update I'm most excited to give... the news I'm most smitten to share... the follow-up you've been looking for... Brady's band, Just Maybe, did audition! They've got new recordings up on their MySpace page. That's my boy singing, too. Gush gush gush. They were incredibly nervous but they did it. They were the youngest band there but they did it. They were the most inexperienced band there but they did it. They did it!

***

I think that's it for my updates.

My spring to-do list is long so I may not be posting as often. But I always say that and then write 5 posts in one sitting, so we'll see.

Thanks for being here. :-)

I missed you too! (Don't feel any bloggy obligation just becasue I wait for your posts, tho...)

I know what you're saying about the blogoshere being at once less lonely but more disconnected. I am glad to have the chance to write more tho. (I never did get back to you on that WONDERFUL email you sent me per writing! See, I have loose ends to tie up, too)

I liked your idea of filling us in on "the rest of the story"...I was wondering how "the band" did!! Very awesome. YOu should be proud. You are proud.

I'm glad to know I"m not the only one with projects that are undone or shall we say, more kindly, "pending."

Go Brady and the band! I clicked on the myspace link. They sound perty darn good. I think teenage musician's are so adorable!

I know what you mean about spring cleaning! And I've been a bad blogger lately as well! So I'll read whenever you post!

Congrats to Brady! I bet they feel great about themselves.

And you are so right about blog non-closure. I do the same thing all the time!

But I was sure glad to see this post come up on my Google Reader this morning! I enjoy your blog very much!

Hi Laura. Thanks for all your kind comments on my blog. It was such a treat to get them. I especially appreciate what you wrote about diversity. And I do hope my criticism was constructive, though your writing is wonderful and I felt out of my league. Thanks also for reporting back about Brady's band. I actually found myself wondering about that recently! Good for them. Gush away!

...Still looking for bathroom color schemes - gotta do your homework. What mood or feeling do you want to convey in this tiny space? (hey, w/o getting too personal, some of us spend a lot of time in the bathroom!) You might have to go with more of a 'motif'(decorative design or pattern) than just a straight color. Think of an image that energizes--if you want that space cleared out fast! Or maybe something that soothes and calms if you're going for relaxing cues. You get the idea--

Common color connotations in Western cultures:

* Red: passion, romance, fire, violence, aggression. Red means stop or signals warning or forbidden actions in many cultures.
* Purple: creativity, mystery, royalty, mysticism, rarity. Purple is associated with death in some cultures.
* Blue: loyalty, security, conservatism, tranquility, coldness, sadness.
* Green: nature, fertility, growth, envy. In North American cultures, green means go, is associated with environmental awareness, and is often linked to fiscal matters.
* Yellow: brightness, illumination, illness, cowardice.
* Black: power, sophistication, contemporary style, death, morbidity, evil.
* White: purity, innocence, cleanliness, truth, peace, coldness, sterility. White is also the color of death in Chinese culture.

I'm still cleaning my office and turning it into a play room. It would be faster if I hadn't gotten the idea to paint mural on the wall. I want to wait until it's warm enough to open the window. It'll be awhile ...

You're not at all the only one that leaves things hanging, I think about that, too. I don't do anything about it, but I think about it. I HAD wondered about your bathroom...

OMG - I'm so excited about the band, how fun! And how brave! Remove the Problem is my favorite, BTW.
