THE SITUATION:
I have overnight guests coming.
I thought it was only going to be my (single) brother-in-law and his two kids. So I scrubbed a bathroom and changed some sheets.
A phone call from my MIL informed me that brother-in-law's grrrlfriend is coming, too. I did not know this.
I called my husband to proclaim my disappointment in his inability to give me all the necessary information.
He asks, "What difference does that make?"

Oh husbands, aren't they a lark? They just don't get that the brother visit is fairly laidback, but the grrlfriend visit is another deal all together. More cleaning, perhaps greater hygiene. Honey, I feel your pain.
Last year I received a baby announcement from one of my neices. I hadn't even know she was pregnant. I mention this when hubby comes home from work and he casually says, "I thought I told you." Well, sweetie, you didn't. Sometimes he just assumes if he THINKS it, I have been told.
Undies in a twist indeed.
Look at that - validation in only 1 hr and 9 minutes. Thanks, I needed that. :)
I don't think men get the idea that all overnight guests are not created equal. At the very least, I need to get my emotional CI balanced. I also would need to adjust my attitude to properly embrace a woman who is now in the lives of a couple of the kids in my family. Remember the inner gggrowl??? I feel ya, sistah, grrl.
With this particular grrrl, it's mostly that I don't know her. I've only met her once even though they've been dating for some time now. So there is that whole unknown thing goin' on. But my kids have been around her more often and they bring good reports. And that says a LOT.
The other thing is switching gears from "If the guys start talking football, I'll go read" to being "on" in a different way. It's fine, just unexpected.
Oh man, my husband NEVER understands this unless its his mother who's coming over. LOL Then we get the lead out and get our clean on.
Also, my husband forgets to tell me things all. the. time. Then swears up and down that he did tell me. drives me nuts, but I love him so he gets to stay.
:)
Hope you had a great holiday!

You gotta love guys. Just this September we got a picture in the mail of my dh's best friends' first child. I said, "You never told me John and Rachel had their baby." and Dh says, "I didn't think it mattered to you." WHAAAT!
Anyway, I wanted to let you know that I have tagged you. Go see me latest post at my blog and if you want to join in the fun, just follow the directions.
THE REPORT:
I'm happy to report that a lovely time was had by all. My house got sufficiently cleaned (I suppose a few hours of harried cleaning beats a few days - always trying to find the silver lining, I am), the sleeping arrangements were easily decided, and we had a very nice visit. Except for when my nephew leaped onto Jonathan's bed, hit his head on the wall, and split his scalp wide open. Midnight ER run, anyone? Aye! Suffice to say the grrlfriend is great and great with the kids and I enjoyed getting to know her better.
But thx for the empathy! I knew you'd all come through for me.
